TRAFFIC ACCIDENT IN PARAKOU: Motorcycle taxi driver killed, truck driver on the run
A traffic tragedy bloodied the city of Parakou on the evening of Sunday, August 23, 2026. Around 7:40 p.m., a violent collision at the Hubert Maga intersection claimed the life of a motorcycle taxi driver after he was struck by a heavy goods vehicle.
According to eyewitness accounts gathered at the scene, the truck was traveling at excessive speed starting from the Mathieu Kérékou intersection. Upon reaching the Hubert Maga intersection, the driver reportedly failed to slow down, striking head-on the motorcyclist who was heading home after his day’s work.
The force of the impact left the victim with no chance of survival, and he succumbed to his injuries on the spot. Immediately following the crash, the truck driver fled, abandoning the scene of the accident.
Alerted to the incident, officers from the Republican Police quickly arrived to secure the area, perform standard scene inspections, and open an investigation. Inquiries are underway to establish the exact circumstances of the collision and attempt to locate the fugitive.
This latest tragedy brutally brings back to the forefront the thorny issue of speed limit compliance and driver courtesy in the Northern metropolis.
