INTEGRATION OF AMEs: Will the 2026–2027 Academic Year begin on a peaceful note?
As the 2026–2027 school year approaches, the fate of the Aspirants to the Teaching Profession (AME) has reached the highest levels of state government. On Friday, September 11, 2026, the President of the Republic, Romuald Wadagni, granted an audience at the Presidential Palace to the national bureau of the National Federation of Pre-inserted Teachers’ Collectives of Benin (FéNaCEPIB). The main objective of this meeting is to resolve the crucial issue of their direct integration into the Beninese civil service.
Initiated at the invitation of the Head of State, this consultation is part of an effort to ensure social peace and a smooth preparation for the academic calendar. For the thousands of teachers involved, this milestone raises high expectations. In an official press release issued the previous day, the FéNaCEPIB communications unit emphasized the historical context of the audience: « It is important to remind all AMEs, members of FéNaCEPIB, that this meeting is the outcome of a long process initiated in 2024 with the President of the Republic—then Minister of Economy and Finance—and his team. »
This step symbolizes continuity in the discussions led by Romuald Wadagni, who previously oversaw this sensitive matter during his tenure at the Ministry of Finance, balancing budgetary limits with improved status for teachers.
Today’s discussions are expected to outline the concrete procedures for transitioning AMEs to full civil servant status.
