Last week, during a media appearance, the Democrats party denounced writings in a newspaper that it considers defamatory. According to Guy Mitokpè, the party’s national communications secretary-general, this is a clear case of a media conspiracy.

As announced, the opposition party Les Démocrates has filed a lawsuit against Aboubacar Takou, the author of the incriminating writings.

The lawsuit specifically targets publications accusing certain party officials of being under the financial influence of Olivier Boko.

Me Renaud Agbodjo, the party’s lawyer, believes that these writings have severely damaged the Democrats’ reputation. In his articles published on October 4th and 12th, 2024, the journalist claimed that « Olivier Boko’s money is driving LD officials crazy » and that « most LD leaders were employed by Olivier Boko. » These allegations have been widely shared on social media.

To allow the party to defend itself, its lawyers have decided to seize the Court for the Repression of Economic Offenses and Terrorism (CRIET). They aim to confront what they consider to be a « defamatory media campaign. »
