BENIN NUMBER PORTABILITY: Phone numbers are switching to 10 digits starting at the end of November

As of November 30, 2024, at 00:00, the change will be effective. Indeed, to meet the growing demand of the population for mobile phone numbers, the current eight digits will be supplemented by the prefix 01, thus increasing to ten digits.
Following the recommendation of the Benin Electronic Communications and Postal Regulation Authority (ARCEP Benin), the Talon government has approved the migration of mobile numbers to ten digits.
This migration follows the previous one from six to eight digits in 2005. In 2024, the significant increase in the need for numbers, due in particular to the emergence of new connected services, the launch of a new operator and the development of mobile financial services and the internet, has made this evolution necessary.
Thus, all mobile phone subscribers in Benin will see their number change from eight to ten digits with the addition of the prefix 01 starting at the end of November.
