Named the Village of African Women Photographers, the VAP’ART festival is a professional gathering of women in art photography. Officially launched on July 15, 2024, through a call for applications, this event is progressing smoothly and has already attracted participants from 7 West African countries.

This vibrant village, bursting with artistic colors, will be animated by photographers from Côte d’Ivoire (Aichata Bakary and Go n’guessan Josephine), Benin (Bada Lauriane and Olivianne Akrota), Burkina Faso (Diarra Assita and Sourabie Yassine), Cameroon (Fossi Cyrielle), Senegal (Kir Kalissa and Sene Sira Konte), Niger (Nadia Younssa), and Togo (Ayaba Koumassi and Wasse Ohiami).

Their works, centered on the theme of women’s empowerment, have captured the attention of the jury who selected them based on their applications. These 12 candidates from 7 countries will bring the Village of Amazons to life through various planned activities: masterclasses, artistic visits, and most importantly, a major exhibition of their artworks scheduled for December 2024 at the French Institute of Parakou.

This unique event contributes to the development of art photography and the empowerment of women. It also promotes women’s leadership in photography, restores gender equality in this field, and fosters cultural tourism.
