A new era begins for Beninese football. This Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the Akpro-Missérété Center of Excellence, Marcellin Bocovè was elected president of the Beninese Football Federation (FBF). Heading the « Together, Let’s Aim Higher » list, he succeeds Mathurin de Chacus, who had held the position since 2018 for a four-year term (2026-2030).

The election demonstrated almost unanimous support from the national football community. Of the 79 voters at the elective General Assembly:

76 votes in favor of the list led by Marcellin Bocovè

1 vote against

2 abstentions

With this overwhelming support, the new executive committee faces significant structural challenges for the next four years:

National Championships: Improving the organization, competitiveness, and professionalization of clubs.

Training & Youth: Strengthening work in academies and identifying talent throughout the country.

Women’s Football & Infrastructure: Developing women’s football and modernizing facilities.

International Reach: Consolidating the performance of the Benin Cheetahs and ensuring administrative stability for the federation.

Following the transition with the outgoing team, the new president and his board will need to quickly translate their commitments into concrete results on the ground.
