LAUNCH OF THE BIG CARNIVAL IN BURKINA FASO: Zangbétô represents Benin

The Banfora Carnival scheduled from July 24 to August 1, 2021 has started in the city of the Black Peasant. At the opening of the carnival in which Benin took part, during their parade, the Beninese “Zangbétô” masks were the fascinating object of all festival-goers. After the demonstrations, the ex Interim Governor of the BCEAO Justin Damo Barro, is delighted « What I saw this evening moved me and I am sure that this carnival will gain momentum ». The head of Beninese masks also thanked the public of Banfora for the welcome. According to him, « Zangbétô » represents the night guards. “If these masks are in one place, there is no theft in that place. Also, if there are quarrels, if we put Zangbétô’s hut there, the person concerned loses his life. Where there is quarrel, if they go there, the temperature drops. This is our culture and we are proud of it, ”added the head of Beninese masks. Parade, cultural nights, public conferences, workshops, artistic performances, sightseeing tours, and more are planned for this first edition of the Banfora Carnival. This Carnival was initiated by Jimoh Lateef Dada to promote and safeguard the arts, crafts, music, traditions and cultural values ​​of the municipality of Banfora and the Cascades region.
