ESCAPE IN APLAHOUÉ: Suspect on the run from Godohou police station
The escape of an individual in police custody has sparked outrage and numerous reactions in the Couffo department. The incident occurred on Friday, June 26, 2026, at the Godohou district police station in the municipality of Aplahoué.
The fugitive, a man, was about to be brought before the prosecutor at the Aplahoué Court of First Instance. Arrested on Wednesday, June 24, by the Department of Investigation and Studies (DEI), the individual is being prosecuted for several serious offenses committed in the region, including the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl.
According to initial findings of the investigation, the escape took place inside the police station itself. While law enforcement officers were preparing to transfer him to court, the suspect took advantage of a brief moment of inattention to vanish before he could even be placed in the transport vehicle.
Faced with this escape, an internal investigation and an active search were immediately launched to locate the man and determine who was responsible for this security breach.
