Freedom was short-lived for an individual in Hêvié. Having recently received a presidential pardon from President Romuald Wadagni, the man was arrested in the act on Friday, August 7, 2026, in the Alassancomè neighborhood, just two days after his release from prison.

Around 8:00 p.m., the suspect scaled the perimeter wall of a construction site. His objective: to steal a well pump used for water drainage. He hadn’t counted on the vigilance of the neighbors. Intrigued by suspicious activity, a resident immediately alerted the site owner.

Caught red-handed dismantling the equipment, the intruder was quickly subdued before being handed over to officers at the Hêvié district police station. It was during the identity check that law enforcement discovered his profile: a repeat offender recently released from prison.

Currently in custody, the suspect will be brought before the public prosecutor this Monday, August 10, 2026, for attempted theft of property. This brief period of freedom will have lasted less than a week.
