EDUCATION/BENIN: Benin Adopts a New Curriculum Framework
Focus on Overhauling Benin’s School System. From June 22 to 26, 2026, Cotonou is hosting a national workshop to develop the Curriculum Framework, the reference document that will define the vision for education from preschool to university.
The goal is to bring order and coherence to the education system, putting an end to reforms implemented by cycles without an overall vision. The government aims to establish a single roadmap, intended to define the knowledge, skills, and values that each student must master at each stage of their education.
This framework will serve as a compass to harmonize curricula, teaching methods, and assessments, from early childhood to higher education. The challenge is twofold: to align education with the country’s development priorities and to equip students for a competitive, digital, and constantly evolving world.
The event brings together ministers from all three levels of education, technical experts, researchers, and financial partners such as the French Development Agency (AFD). The ultimate goal remains to train well-rounded citizens: Beninese capable of meeting the country’s challenges and succeeding in the modern world.
