This has become a well-established tradition in the cultural calendar of the city of Parakou. Every first Friday of the month, the IFB-UP’s « O’Ciné » program showcases filmmakers. This Friday, July 3rd, starting at 7:00 PM, the Parakou audience will have the privilege of discovering Balogou Osée Adamassou’s sharp and committed perspective through the screening of two major documentary films. The first film of the evening, entitled « Igbeyawo, » is a 26-minute documentary that immerses the viewer in the corridors of time.

In an era when the world still preserved its purity, the union of two young people was governed by formal rules and strict fundamental principles. Far removed from the realities of today’s generations, this short film meticulously retraces the rigorous premarital process among our ancestors. An essential work of remembrance.

A change of scenery and theme with the second film, « Ajile. » Here, the director sets his camera along the furrows of the rural world, where the majority of vulnerable populations depend exclusively on agriculture for their survival. The film highlights the inspiring initiatives of the KóBɔ̀Fɔmá – Hope – educational farm. Faced with the devastating effects of chemical inputs, this organization advocates for the use of organic fertilizers made from natural materials. “Ajile” brilliantly demonstrates that chemical-free agriculture is key to preserving human, animal, and environmental health.Beyond a simple screening, “O’Ciné” aims to be a space for discussion and knowledge sharing. Following the screening of the two short films, the audience will have the opportunity to speak directly with Balogou Osée ADAMASSOU.

This is an ideal opportunity for film enthusiasts, students, and anyone curious to ask the filmmaker about his artistic approach, aesthetic choices, and the social issues raised in his work. The event will take place this Friday, July 3rd, at 7:00 PM at the IFB-UP (University of Parakou). Lovers of documentary film and culture, the screen awaits you.
