FIRST AID TRAINING: JCI Parakou Royale Trains Students

As part of its action plan, Junior Chamber International (JCI) Parakou Royale organized its first round of first aid training this Saturday, June 21, 2015. The event took place on the volleyball court of the University of Parakou, bringing together many students eager to acquire lifesaving skills._
This initiative was carried out in collaboration with the NGO APID and the 2UPR movement, and was sponsored by Mr. Abdou-Raouf Céci Sidi, Director of the Parakou University and Social Services Center (D-Cous/P). The training was masterfully led by the firefighters group, under the direction of the Borgou Departmental Commander, Marc Fayomi.
For the project sponsor, Mr. Abdou-Raouf Céci Sidi, this is a « very interesting initiative that deserves to be repeated to further equip students with these concepts. » He also expressed his thanks to the participants, emphasizing the importance of this training: « From today, you will be useful to your family, your community, and the nation, thanks to your first aid actions. »
Four essential modules to save lives
During this training, the firefighters’ association presented four fundamental modules:
Protection: This involves all the measures to be taken to avoid a further accident, protect the victim, and not aggravate their situation. It also includes precautions to prevent further accidents during the intervention.
Alerting: This module teaches best practices for effectively alerting emergency services.
First aid for a breathing victim: Specific techniques for caring for a conscious and breathing person. First aid for an unconscious victim: Procedures to follow in the event of loss of consciousness and respiratory arrest.
A crucial point covered was victim extrication, which involves moving a person in danger when their immediate environment is threatening. According to firefighters, four methods exist for moving a victim: by the wrists, by the ankles, by the armpit, and by the shirts. First aid, however, is adapted according to the victim’s specific condition.
The fourth module also provided participants with practical information on how to contact the fire department in the event of a serious accident. The number to call for immediate assistance is 0169583737.
The objective: to train young people who are useful to the community.
Maxime Gnantonou, President of JCI Parakou Royale, reiterated the main motivation for this training. For him, the goal is to inform and train young people to be useful wherever they witness an accident.
Ogboni Adechina Roland, Leader of the 2UPR movement, confirmed that the training’s objective had been achieved. « I hoped that at the end of this training, we young people would be able to provide first aid to injured people. With what the trainees learned today, I am confident they can perform these first aid actions, » he said.
For his part, Issaka Traoré Marzouk, Executive Director of APID NGO, warmly thanked the sponsor for his support. « Today, we simply covered the basics of first aid as first aiders, and we plan to schedule other sessions to expand on these concepts, » he said, emphasizing his organization’s commitment to continuing these trainings within the community.
Convinced that the participants acquired new skills, essential, the organizers expressed their sincere thanks to the fire brigade company for their involvement and the interest they showed in this vital project.
