As the festivities for Benin’s 66th Independence Day approach, road traffic will undergo major changes in the economic capital. In a press release issued this Friday, June 26, 2026, the Managing Director of the Event Logistics Company (SoLE SA), Roukiyath MAMAH-DJIMAN, announced the start of construction work on the official grandstands at the Amazone esplanade.

These large-scale construction projects will cause temporary disruptions on Boulevard de la Marina. To ensure smooth traffic flow and minimize inconvenience, SoLE SA has implemented a specific detour plan in the esplanade area:

Cotonou Autonomous Port Direction: Users coming from the port should use the left-hand lane.

Novotel Direction: Traffic coming from the Novotel will be diverted to the right-hand lane.

Traffic Management: This specific section of the boulevard will exceptionally operate in both directions for the duration of the preparations.

Heavy goods vehicles are strictly prohibited on this detour. Truck drivers are advised to plan their journeys in advance and use alternative routes.

SoLE SA management wishes to reassure road users that these changes will not impact other roads in the city of Cotonou. However, they urge all motorists and motorcyclists to exercise caution and strictly adhere to the new construction signage.
