ROAD SAFETY IN PARAKOU: Youth and Teachers at the Heart of the “SauvE4 Holidays 2026” Campaign
During school holidays, traffic increases and the risk of accidents rises. To address this, the NGO Feu Vert and its partners are launching the “SauvE4 Holidays 2026” project in Parakou, a major initiative designed to train young people and educators in safe road practices.
From August 4 to 29, 2026, the Parakou Local Red Cross Committee will serve as the hub for road safety awareness. Initiated by the NGO Feu Vert in partnership with APID NGO, the Local Red Cross Committee, and JCI Royal, the campaign specifically targets four priority groups (the “4Es”): Schoolchildren, Students, University Students, and Teachers.
Every morning, from 9:00 to 11:00, these road users benefit from practical and theoretical sessions focused on responsibility and respect for the Highway Code.
Pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and motorcyclists: each participant is encouraged to become aware of their role in ensuring smooth and safe traffic flow. The modules cover all the fundamentals:
Infrastructure: Understanding the road and its characteristics.
Regulations: User obligations and mastering maneuvers.
Technical aspects: The importance of vehicle checks and maintenance.
Safety: Adopting good habits to avoid distractions and reduce risks.
Participation in this campaign does not replace a driver’s license. It serves as an educational stepping stone, designed to instill good habits and encourage eligible participants to obtain their official license.
The campaign’s demands also include discipline: punctuality and attendance are required, and caution is exercised from the very start of the journey to the training sessions.
The ambition extends beyond the two hours of daily instruction. The goal is to make each participant a road safety ambassador, capable of sharing this valuable knowledge in their school, family, and neighborhood.
