HÊVIÉ: Six electric meter thieves arrested
A network specialized in the theft of electric meters and electricity trafficking has been dismantled by the police in Hêvié. Six individuals, including technical accomplices, were arrested.
It all started with a complaint from a resident of Hêvié who was suddenly left without electricity. Following up on the investigation, officers from the local police station initially arrested a first trio in possession of the stolen device. The disclosures from this initial arrest subsequently led to the detention of three other accomplices.
During searches, law enforcement seized five other meters connected to parallel installations. This illegal setup allowed several users to consume electricity completely unlawfully.
For confirmation, the police requested technical expertise from the SBEE agency in Cococodji. The technicians’ verdict was categorical: all five discovered devices indeed came from previous thefts. The ring operated thanks to a combination of well-established profiles, bringing together casual workers, millers, and fake technicians.
Under the leadership of Superintendent Jean-Gilles Djidonou, investigations are continuing to identify possible further ramifications in the region. As for the six suspects, they were presented to the prosecutor’s office to face justice for their actions.
