STUDENTS’ MOBILITY DURING SCHOOL HOURS : The need to consider their road safety

Between 6:30 AM and 7:45 AM, and then between 2:00 PM and 2:45 PM and 5:00 PM, numerous children squeeze between vehicles and motorcycles to go to school or return home. This is particularly evident at Zongo Public Primary School and Kombert Primary School in Parakou. Unfortunately, drivers do not always exercise caution and drive at high speeds, endangering the lives of these young pedestrians.
To prevent these « goodbyes » from turning into tragedies, urgent measures must be taken. All stakeholders in education must be involved: parents, teachers, school principals, and political authorities. Everyone has a role to play in ensuring the safety of students who face accident risks every time they cross the road.
Urgent action is needed! Children have the right to feel safe. To protect them from the dangers of the road, it is essential to find concrete solutions.
