Three ghettos completely razed and 16 individuals arrested: the Republican Police are stepping up their efforts in the Donga department. On Friday, July 17, 2026, a large-scale operation coordinated by the Republican Police led to the dismantling of three major drug trafficking networks in the municipality of Djougou. This targeted offensive resulted in the destruction of three notorious ghettos and a massive seizure of illicit goods.
Conducted under the direct supervision of the city’s Central Police Commissioner, the operation mobilized a joint task force. Law enforcement officers from the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd districts of Djougou, strongly supported by the Surveillance and Intervention Platoon (PSI), struck hard and simultaneously.

Three strategic areas, identified as veritable hotbeds of urban crime, were cleared:

The Yalowa neighborhood ghetto;

The Atchoukouma market hideout;

The clandestine site located along the street opposite the JNP station (2nd arrondissement).

The thorough searches conducted at these locations led to the seizure of a significant quantity of highly dangerous substances:

Indian hemp and various psychotropic drugs;

Counterfeit alcohol and liquors in plastic sachets/bottles of dubious origin;

Numerous packs of cigarettes.

In total, 16 individuals suspected of participating in these criminal activities were arrested. The seized items were immediately placed under seal as evidence, while the suspects will be brought before the courts in the coming days.

The message from the Republican Police is clear: This operation is part of a national zero-tolerance policy against narcotics and urban crime. No ghetto will be spared in Benin.
