VODUN DAYS 2027: A week of cultural immersion and two public holidays on the program

The government has released the official program for Vodun Days 2027. This flagship event, both cultural and spiritual, will take place over a full week, from Saturday, January 2nd to Saturday, January 9th, 2027.

This extended duration aims to meet the growing enthusiasm and strong mobilization observed during previous editions. The objective is to offer the Beninese diaspora, present in the country for the end-of-year holidays, the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in all the planned events.

The government has also specified the schedule of public holidays related to this celebration:

Monday, January 4th, Tuesday, January 5th, and Wednesday, January 6th: Working days.

Thursday, January 7th, 2027: Declared a paid public holiday.

Friday, January 8th, 2027: Declared a paid public holiday.

Since the recent reform, the Festival of Traditional Religions is no longer held on January 10th, but is now scheduled for the second Friday of January. For 2027, the major celebration will therefore take place on Friday, January 8th.

Through this new arrangement, the government intends to strengthen the national and international appeal of Vodun Days. The ambition is clear: to make this event a leading cultural and tourist destination, capable of showcasing Benin’s heritage and attracting an ever-growing audience.
