Benin celebrated beauty and intangible heritage during the Miss Culture Benin 2026 pageant. Following a competition centered on identity and tradition, Sylvie Tchaangou Konité—a proud representative of the Waama community—was crowned ambassador of Beninese culture. Adding to this triumph, the first runner-up, Ruth Bangami Sabro, also hails from the Waama community.

Moved and grateful after receiving her sash and crown, the new beauty queen fully grasps the significance of her title: « Honestly, after this crowning, I feel very happy, honored, and above all, grateful. This title represents a great responsibility for me, because I am not just wearing a crown; I am also carrying the values of my culture. »

During the contest, the candidate made a lasting impression through her strong commitment to linguistic heritage. Her key project, titled « Women: Key Players in Passing Down Beninese Languages to Younger Generations, » aims to re-engage mothers and young women in safeguarding local dialects.

She now intends to turn this honor into concrete action: « I want to use this title as a genuine platform to promote our culture—especially our languages and traditions—among the youth, and to pursue grassroots initiatives. »

In Sylvie Tchaangou Konité and her first runner-up, Ruth Bangami Sabro, Waama youth embody a promising vision: a blend of modernity, female leadership, and deep cultural roots.
