TRAGEDY IN BOKO AFTER GAANI: One Dead and Several Injured as Truck Overturns
A serious traffic accident occurred this Thursday near Boko, in the municipality of N’Dali. A truck coming from Nikki carrying riders, horses, and several passengers returning from the Gaani festivities overturned into a ravine.
According to Alidou Tamou Orou Yorou, Chief of the Sirarou arrondissement, contacted by Fraternité FM, the tragedy occurred during an overtaking maneuver between two heavy goods vehicles. The sudden appearance of an oncoming car forced the drivers to pull back abruptly. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the truck carrying the riders veered off course before running off the road.
The provisional toll reports one death and numerous injuries: 9 injured individuals are receiving care at the Boko hospital. The most critical cases have been transferred to the CHUD Borgou in Parakou.
The Republican Police and the Borgou civil protection units quickly deployed assistance and evacuation operations at the site.
The large influx of travelers associated with the traditional Gaani celebrations is causing major traffic disruptions. Severe traffic jams and numerous parked heavy vehicles are reported near the Sirarou toll station. Local authorities are calling on all road users to exercise maximum vigilance and strictly reduce their speed throughout the entire sector.
