The Directorate General of Customs (DGD) is taking a firm stance. This Thursday, July 2, 2026, the administration formally denied fraudulent posts circulating on social media. These posts announce an alleged auction of vehicles and motorcycles at the Autonomous Port of Cotonou.

Behind this fake announcement lies a well-orchestrated scam: a hacked Facebook account is impersonating the Director General of Customs and demanding registration fees via MTN Mobile Money, Moov Money, or WhatsApp contacts.

The customs administration is categorical: no such operation is currently underway. It took this opportunity to reiterate essential rules:

Customs never requests registration fees or money transfers via Mobile Money (Momo/Moov).

The institution does not use personal accounts or WhatsApp numbers for its official procedures.

All genuine information is disseminated exclusively through authorized institutional and administrative channels.

The General Directorate of Customs (DGD) urges the public to exercise extreme caution. Do not send any money or personal data in response to these fraudulent messages.

This is not the end of the matter. The General Directorate of Customs has announced the immediate launch of an investigation to track down the cybercriminals. The perpetrators, co-perpetrators, and accomplices of this scam face severe criminal penalties for identity theft, forgery and use of forged documents, as well as fraud.
